Groves to fight in Germany on Saturday
George Groves is to fight in Germany on Saturday.
He hinted after his recent knockout of Dario Balmaceda that he could feature on the undercard of the world title clash between Robert Stieglitz and WBO champion Arthur Abraham.
And Hammersmith’s unbeaten super-middleweight has duly been added to the show at the GETEC Arena in Magdeburg, with his opponent named as Baker Barakat, 32, from Syria.
Commonwealth title holder Groves, 24, is the WBO’s number one contender and has been tipped to face the winner of the Abraham-Stieglitz bout.
Last year an injury forced him to withdraw from a proposed world title challenge against Stieglitz, who was then champion.
Groves is also due to appear as the chief support to the rematch between world champions Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler at the O2 Arena in May.
