Stuttering Brentford beaten at Carlisle
Carlisle 2 Brentford 0
Brentford’s stuttering promotion bid was dealt another blow as they slumped to a second successive defeat for the first time this season.
They improved on their poor showing against Stevenage in midweek but were unable to break down Carlisle’s stubborn defence.
The Bees went behind midway though the first half, when Sean O’Hanlon headed home John-Paul McGovern’s free-kick.
McGovern then hit the bar and Brentford keeper Simon Moore produced a fine save to deny Matty Robson.
But Carlisle did double their lead following a mistake by Liam Moore nine minutes after the break.
The on-loan defender was robbed by Brad Potts, who set up Mark Beck for the all-important second goal.
Toumani Diagouraga almost pulled a goal back when he fired inches wide after good work by Stuart Dallas.
Brentford: S Moore, Logan, Dean, L Moore, Craig, Forshaw (Adams 75), Douglas, Dallas, Diagouraga, Donaldson (Wright-Phillips 54), Trotta.
Subs not used: Lee, Hodson, Adeyemi, Reeves, Hayes.
