Adeyemi comes on to give Bees victory

Brentford 1 Scunthorpe 0

Substitute Tom Adeyemi’s second-half winner gave Brentford an important victory as they chase promotion.

The Norwich loanee found the net from inside the area on 70 minutes to save his side from a second successive goalless draw at home – and secure only their second league win at Griffin Park  since early December.

Manager Uwe Rosler criticised his team for a poor performance in midweek despite winning at Crawley Town and the Bees were far short of their best again.

Harry Forrester returned to the side after missing Tuesday’s 2-1 victory but the hosts clearly missed Adam Forshaw, who was suspended after being sent off in that game.

Top scorer Clayton Donaldson was also missing from the squad following the recent death of his mother and youngster Jake Reeves made a rare start.

Scunthorpe’s Eddie Nolan shaved the top of the crossbar early on but the away side were lucky not to see their goalkeeper Sam Slocombe sent off for handling the ball outside the area and denying Bradley Wright-Phillips a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Brentford were struggling until Adeyemi came on in place of Reeves and slotted home from Marcello Trotta’s pass.

Brentford (4-4-2): S Moore; Logan, Dean, Craig, L Moore; Saunders (Dallas 59), Douglas, Reeves (Adeyemi 67), Forrester (Bidwell 81); Trotta, B. Wright-Phillips.
Subs not used: Lee, Barron, Diagouraga, Hayes.
