Fulham undone by Rooney’s late winner
Fulham 0 Manchester United 1
Wayne Rooney slotted home a late winner for title-chasing Manchester United at Craven Cottage.
The England striker showed his class with a curling effort with 10 minutes left after Fulham had threatened for much of the second half.
Both Rooney and Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz struck the post in the first half, while United’s Patrice Evra hit the bar, before floodlight failure just before the interval disrupted United’s flow.
Fulham, whose new signing Urby Emanuelson came off the bench for his debut, went close when Hugo Rodallega and Philippe Senderos saw headers cleared off the line.
Rooney finished well after latching on to Jonny Evans’ long ball, which Senderos had failed to deal with.
Senderos almost atoned in injury time but his header was cleared off the line by Robin van Persie.
