Terry poised as Luiz setback is confirmed

John Terry looks likely to return to the Chelsea starting line-up for Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Brentford.

The Blues skipper, sidelined after sustaining a knee injury against Liverpool in November, has been an unused substitute for recent matches.

But he is expected to feature at Griffin Park, not least because David Luiz has been ruled out after suffering a recurrence of an ankle problem.

Interim manager Rafael Benitez said: “Terry has been training again so that is fine. Maybe he will have a chance.

“I think he was doing really well in the training sessions. I think he’s progressing and doing well so he will have a chance to play.

“We have had two or three more training sessions [since the Swansea game] that have been positive for him and positive for us.”

Luiz was hurt during the midweek Capital One Cup game at Swansea and could be out for several weeks.

At this stage Chelsea are unsure how long he will be unavailable for but he is almost certain to miss next week’s Premier League game against Reading.
