Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Chelsea were unable to pull off a comeback at the Liberty Stadium, where a goalless draw took the Welsh club through to their first major final.
And the Blues’ interim boss said: “We needed to score three goals and we couldn’t. That’s the main thing.
‘We didn’t hit the target in the way we had to. We didn’t score the first goal. We didn’t take the chances we had – especially in the last 20 minutes of the first half.
“I was convinced we could score. We were on top of them but we didn’t take our chances. It was the same as in the first leg.”
