Benitez: Torres will prove doubters wrong
Rafael Benitez insists he has no doubt Chelsea striker Fernando Torres will resdiscover his best form.
After enjoying an upturn in his fortunes following Benitez’s appointment as interim manager, Torres has performed poorly in recent weeks.
And with new signing Demba Ba having already scored three goals for the Blues, there has been speculation about Torres’ future at Stamford Bridge.
But Benitez said: “When we just arrived we could see that he was improving and he was scoring goals.
“I think we have to see the big picture. Why did we sign Demba Ba? Because we wanted to have two options and to rest Torres, who was playing so many games.
“Maybe short-term now we can say ‘Oh, he’s not good’ but in the longer term it will be much better.
“If he plays he will be rested and will have more energy. It will be good for the team and for him.
“I’m sure that Fernando will go back to his level and he will do well.”

I wonder how long must it get before people realize that Torres is no longer the Nando of the old. Holding on to him for too long has cost chelsea a few trophies lifting chances and there is no end in sight to this.
