Donaldson nets late Bees winner
Brentford 3 MK Dons 2
Clayton Donaldson’s 89th-minute winner secured a dramatic victory for Brentford against their promotion rivals.
The Bees twice came from behind after Ryan Lowe put the Dons into an early lead and then Stephen Gleeson put them back ahead early in the second half.
Donaldson equalised just before half-time with his 10th league goal of the season before Harry Forrester put his side level again with 15 minutes left.
And then Donaldson stole all three points for Brentford at the death after Marcello Trotta’s shot was parried into his path.
The Bees could easily have been two or three behind early in the game if not for a string of fine saves from Simon Moore.
But there was little the goalkeeper could do when Lowe was put through by Gleeson and slotted coolly underneath him after 14 minutes.
Tony Craig had a goal ruled out for offside and Forrester almost equalised with a superb curling effort that hit the post before his cross found Donaldson unmarked to tap home.
Gleeson turned and fired past Moore inside the area before Forrester smashed in from close range when Trotta’s shot was fumbled by Dons keeper David Martin.
And another Trotta shot was spilled into the path of Donaldson, who settled a pulsating contest.
