Avram Grant calls for Benitez to be given support
Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has told the BBC he believes the club should support under-fire interim manager Rafael Benitez.
Grant, who led Chelsea to the 2008 Champions League Final, was recently linked with a return to Stamford Bridge in the wake of Benitez’s poor start.
The club subsequently denied reports that Grant was being considered for a role.
Benitez is deeply unpopular among Blues fans from his time at Liverpool and the decision to install him in place of the sacked Roberto Di Matteo has caused anger.
But Grant insisted: “The most important thing for them is that they have a manager who needs supporting.
“What Rafa needs now is good victories and good football to convince the supporters that they need to support him.”
Asked whether he would be willing to work alongside Benitez, he said: “I don’t think it’s the right idea for the moment.”
