Benitez standing by Torres after defeat
Rafael Benitez again defended struggling striker Fernando Torres following Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat at West Ham.
The Spaniard looked off the pace once more and has now failed to score in eight domestic matches.
But Benitez remains adamant that the whole team is responsible for the Blues’ recent shortcomings.
“I thought the team had chances, not just Fernando,” said the interim manager.
“When you are attacking and you are controlling the game like we did in the first half, you have to score goals.
“In the first half we could have scored two or three goals and it would have been completely different, but we didn’t do it.
“West Ham’s first goal was controversial but it made a big difference. After that we weren’t in control and gave the ball away too easily.”
