Redknapp plays down link to Cole and Bent
Harry Redknapp has played down speculation linking him with Joe Cole and Darren Bent.
Both men have played under Redknapp previously and the new QPR manager is reported to be keen to take them to Loftus Road.
Cole has been linked with a loan move from Liverpool, while Bent is out of favour at Aston Villa and has been tipped to move on in January.
But Redknapp suggested that Rangers will not spend when the transfer window opens if they do not appear to have a realistic chance of staying in the Premier League.
“Darren Bent’s a good player but I’m not even looking at January,” said Redknapp.
“I’ve always liked Joe. I signed him for West Ham at 11 years old so no-one knows more about him than me.
“I still think he’s got talent and there’s a top player there, but I’ve made no enquiry about Joe. I’ve had no contact with his agent or anyone.”
He added: “What happens between now and then [January] will decide where we go.
“If we don’t get points in that period then why put the club in danger by signing five players and having a big wage bill next season?
“I haven’t discussed players with anyone – not the chairman or [chief executive] Philip Beard.
We just need to win football matches.”
Redknapp also played down the possibility of a bid being tabled for Marseille striker Loic Remy, who he tried to sign while Tottenham boss.
“I was interested, yes. But that was then and now is a different situation. It’d be expensive. It all depends what happens between now and then.”
