Nelsen: Mark Hughes ‘transformed QPR’

Ryan Nelsen insists Mark Hughes changed QPR for the better.

Hughes, who managed Nelsen at Blackburn and brought him to Loftus Road, made a number of behind-the-scenes changes at Rangers.

But he lost his job as boss last week following a disastrous run which saw the team fail to win a league game this season.

“It was very sad to see Mark go, because he has transformed QPR,” said Nelsen.

Hughes was fired last week.

“It may not look like it from the outside, but inside it’s a whole different club.

“It’s a Premier League club now, but unfortunately the results didn’t go for him and I felt really bad for him.”

Nelsen has also played under Harry Redknapp, who signed him for Tottenham.

And the veteran defender believes Rangers’ new manager can lead them away from the bottom of the table.

He said: “Harry has come in, I know him really well and his credentials speak for themselves.

“It’s up to us now to bring in results for him, start producing on the field and getting some points.

“He was happy with the clean sheet and point against Sunderland, but I think there was slight disappointment in his voice because we had good chances and were the better team.

“Obviously Harry hasn’t had much time and is still getting to know every player.

“He has to cast his own eye on everyone and that won’t happen overnight. He is just trying to keep everyone positive.”
