Harry: QPR’s players should be embarrassed
Harry Redknapp has delivered a damning verdict on the players he has inherited at QPR, declaring that they ought to feel embarrassed by their performances this season.
Redknapp will take charge of the team for the first time when Rangers, bottom of the table and without a league win, face Sunderland.
And the new manager said: “How do you end up with four points from 13 games? It’s an incredible total.
“They should be higher – but anyone should be higher than four points, I must be honest. It’s an embarrassing total. They’ve got to do better.
QPR’s league record this season
Won: 0
Played: 13
Drawn: 4
Lost: 9
“They should be embarrassed. It’s no good us kidding ourselves. Four points from 13 games? That’s unreal.”
One of Redknapp’s first tasks is to create team spirit in a divided dressing room.
But he insists the players are responsible for the dismal results which led to the departure of Mark Hughes last week.
He said: “You can talk to players all day. Those that are not playing will blame those that are, who’ll blame someone else.
“Then the manager’s got the sack – and Mark’s an excellent manager – and I’ve now got to find out what’s wrong and make my own decisions.
“Mark was shocked by the Southampton game. I was shocked too. And I thought they’d beat Reading at home.
“They started off losing 5-0 at home to Swansea. I couldn’t see that coming – QPR were my banker that day to beat Swansea.
“Something has got to be lacking, hasn’t it? You can’t have four points from 13 games. It’s not possible.
“I’ve got to find out what’s wrong and put it right quickly. That’s the challenge.”
