Bees endure frustrating goalless draw

Brentford dominated for long periods but were unable to clinch a fourth consecutive home win.

And for all the Bees’ attacking intent, Shrewsbury substitute Terry Gornell almost snatched victory for his team when he fired against the post with 12 minutes remaining.

The visitors had also thought they had been given a penalty when Marvin Morgan’s shot hit Tony Craig on the arm and referee Tim Robinson pointed to the spot before consulting his assistant and then awarding a corner.

That decision went Brentford’s way but they were left cursing their luck when Paul Hayes diverted Adam Forshaw’s shot into the net but was adjudged to be offside.

Earlier, Clayton Donaldson missed their best chance of the first half when he blasted wide after being put through by Forshaw.

At the other end, Simon Moore produced a fine save to tip away Paul Parry’s long-range effort before Morgan got away from Leon Legge and shot wide of the near post.

Brentford boss Uwe Rosler brought on Harry Forrester and then Hayes in the second half in a bid to find the elusive goal.

But the Shrews stood firm and looked dangerous on the counter-attack – not least when Gornell was denied by the woodwork.
