Forshaw’s goal enough for Brentford

Adam Forshaw’s first goal for Brentford proved to be the winner in a nervous encounter at Griffin Park.

The youngster, signed from Everton in the summer after a successful loan spell last season, latched onto Farid El Alagui’s through-ball and finished neatly in the first-half.

For all Brentford’s endeavour and craft they saw a number of chances squandered, with Clayton Donaldson and Tony Craig both going close on two occasions.

And the excellent Harry Forrester saw a free-kick from inside the area cleared off the line after Oldham keeper Dean Bouzanis picked up a back pass in the second period.

Forrester was restored to the starting line-up after his superb individual goal salvaged a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

But it meant Sam Saunders once again found himself an unused substitute as Forshaw and Norwich loanee Tom Adeymi completed the midfield four with Jonathan Douglas.

It was Forrester who provided the skill to keep the ball in play and feed El Alagui on the edge of the box before the Moroccan played in Forshaw to slot underneath the goalkeeper.

Forshaw picked up a knock in the second half, however, and was forced to go off.
