Webber waits as Gabbidon gets chance
Danny Webber expects his future to be decided soon after QPR’s pre-season trip to the south-west.
Irish goalkeeper Brian Murphy, who is being assessed ahead of a possible move from Ipswich, will also be part of the Rangers squad for matches against Tavistock, Plymouth and Bodmin.
So too could Wales defender Danny Gabbidon, who is without a club after departing West Ham and has been offered a trial by R‘s boss Neil Warnock.
Webber, a free agent after leaving Portsmouth, played under Warnock at Sheffield United.
The striker featured in Friday’s friendly against Harrow Borough, but has denied reports he has already been offered a one-year deal at Loftus Road.
“We haven’t really talked about anything other than the games coming up. I’ll be going down to Devon and then we’ll take it from there,” Webber told West London Sport.
“I know the gaffer from Sheffield United and he just said to me to come down and play a few games and I was happy to do that.
“There are a few other clubs that have shown an interest in me, so it’s a case of doing my best in the games and seeing what happens.”
Webber, 29, has been a target for QPR on a number of previous occasions, the most recent of which was during Warnock’s successor Paul Hart’s brief spell at the club.
Hart was keen to sign Webber and goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown, both of whom were managed by him at Portsmouth.
Webber added: “I’ve actually come close to joining QPR three or four times in my career. They were interested about a year ago. Who knows, maybe this time I’ll end up joining the club.”
