Toms to fight for title in Weise rematch

Former champion Ryan Toms will face Nathan Weise for the vacant southern area light-middleweight title at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on 7 July.

Weise was beaten by O’Meara.

The fight is a rematch between two men who drew at York Hall last year – and who suffered first-round defeats at the hands of West Londoner Steve O’Meara at the same venue.

Toms, from Northholt, held the southern-area belt until losing to O’Meara there in September.

O’Meara then crushed Weise three months later, poleaxing the Thamesmead man with a thumping right hand.

The title became vacant when O’Meara opted not to fight Yassmine El Maachi, who was then due to face Toms but was forced to pull out because of an injury.

Weise, 27, has a record of 8-2-2, while the 30-year-old Toms (10-2-1) was unbeaten before his defeat against O’Meara.

Toms has subsequently been beaten by Joe Selkirk but returned to winning ways with a third-round stoppage of Ukrainian Oleksiy Chukov last time out.
