Hughes to respond to Barton verdict

QPR midfielder Joey Barton has been given a 12-match ban by the Football Association for his violent outburst in the recent match against Manchester City.

His red card for elbowing Carlos Tevez incurred an automatic four-game suspension and he has been banned for a further eight matches after being found guilty by an independent regulatory commission of two subsequent acts of violent conduct.

The player kicked City’s Sergio Aguero and then confronted Vincent Kompany.

Barton, who has also been fined £75,000, admitted lashing out at Aguero and denied aiming a headbutt at Kompany, but was found guilty of the offence.

Rangers’ position has been that they would await the FA’s verdict before formally beginning their own investigation into Barton’s conduct.

Rangers manager Mark Hughes is currently out of the country and will address the issue on his return.
