Tuchel given green light to take Chelsea backroom staff

Enzo Maresca says Chelsea will not stand in the way of any staff who are wanted by new England manager Thomas Tuchel.

Reports have suggested that ex-Chelsea boss Tuchel will look to his former club as he assembles his new backroom team.

Tuchel is expected to bring in former Chelsea goalkeeper Henrique Hilario as a coach, as well as performance analyst James Melbourne.

Hilario is currently working as a goalkeeping coach under head coach Maresca at Stamford Bridge, having returned to the club to in 2016.

“I know that one of them has been approached, one of the analysts,” said Maresca.

“We are quite open for people to take their chances, if they want to. The other one – Hilario – I heard something, but there has not been any approach yet.

“We are open-minded. We are happy to keep people who want to stay. But if they want to go, they can go.”

Maresca also offered his best wishes to Tuchel, who won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time at Chelsea.

He said: “All the best to Thomas. If the people in charge decided on him, it’s because they are convinced. All the best to him.”
