Brentford FC: Entertainment, Surprises, and Future of Premiership Run

How have Brentford fared in the Premiership so far? Let’s take a look at how they’ve surprised, how they entertain, and what could be coming this season. 

Brentford’s Fourth Season in the Premiership 

It might go without saying, but Premiership teams are held to an extremely high standard. Due to how widespread the spectatorship is for all the teams in the top league, they are expected to perform not just for glory, but for entertainment too. On the other hand, Brentford played fairly consistently both home and away in the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons, but only gained 22 points in away games (compared to 37 at home) during the 2022/23 season, which could impact their odds going forward. 

On an Upwards Trajectory 

To this day, Brentford’s top success remains the 1935/36 season, where they placed 5th in the First Division. However, this was followed by an unfortunate run of luck, including three relegations, to land in the Fourth Division by 1962. And, the Bees’ bad luck didn’t end there – they have been notoriously unlucky in finals, losing four playoff finals for promotion in 1997, 2002, 2012, and 2020. Despite this, Brentford’s luck was restored in 2021 as they were promoted to play in the highest league for the first time since 1946/47. 

Whilst in the Premiership, Brentford has placed 13th, 9th, and 16th respectively. This determination to stay in the top league even in the face of an injury-laden team is largely credited to Thomas Frank, who’s only the 2nd head coach or manager of Brentford to achieve promotion to the highest league. Throughout this time, the Bees have continued to entertain and surprise spectators. Frank’s consistency in improving the team has not gone unnoticed, so much so that Six Sports has reported interest from the Danish national team and a number of Premiership sides. 

What’s Next? 

In preparation for the 2024/25 season, Brentford has dropped over £82 million in transfer fees. This includes the transfer of a centre-forward from Club Brugge, centre-back and attacking-midfielder from Liverpool, left-winger from Grêmio, left-back from Southampton, and two promotions from the B team. The Bees have also loaned players from Swansea, St. Mirren, and Fylde until May 2025. That said, we’ll have to wait and see how Brentford performs without their star player, Toney. But, one thing’s for sure, the side never fails to entertain.
