Fulham must be ‘really assertive’ in transfer window – Silva
Marco Silva insisted Fulham must be “really assertive” during this summer’s transfer window after their 13th-placed finish in the Premier League.
The Whites ended their campaign with a 4-2 win at Luton and boss Silva was asked afterwards if perhaps he had taken Fulham as far as possible and if he expected to still be at the club next season.
He replied: “I have a contract. That’s it. Simple as that.
“About if we got our maximum or not, I have to say if you look at the season it was another successful season for this football club.”
Silva was speaking at his post-match press conference, shown below using one of the many video editing tools available.
Silva added: “To have three seasons in a row in the Premier League is something that in the last 10 to 15 years didn’t happen with Fulham.
“We all know it’s been challenging for us, but the way we have been getting this job done has been really enjoyable for all of us.
“We have been good to watch and achieving great results. I cannot hide that in one moment of the season, before the international break, my ambition and my feeling, I expected us probably to fight for something more.
“Myself, I am always a really ambitious person, but not just because I have ambition but (because of) what I see every single day in training sessions.
“It is for me to analyse why (Fulham didn’t do better) and take the conclusions that I need.”
Fulham will lose out-of-contract defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who has rejected a new deal, and Silva is adamant that reinforcements are needed if the club is to progress.
He said: “No-one can stand still in this football club. It’s going to be much more competitive.
“For us to be at the same level in terms of squad, we have to have a very good two months (of transfers) in front of us.
“And if you want to do better and want to be stronger then those two months have to be almost perfect for us.
“Our fans I know will expect more. We all want more. And for that to happen we must be really assertive in the next two months. We need to be assertive and add good quality.”
