Palmer penalty earns Chelsea dramatic point

Chelsea 4 Man City 4

Cole Palmer’s injury-time penalty against his former club earned Chelsea a point in a breathless encounter at Stamford Bridge.

The winger kept his cool to slot home after substitute Armando Broja was brought down by Ruben Dias’s clumsy challenge.

Rodri’s deflected strike five minutes from time looked to have sealed victory for the champions after Robert Sanchez was wrong-footed by the ball cannoning off Thiago Silva and into the bottom corner.

Erling Haaland had put City in front after 20 minutes when he slotted home a penalty after Marc Cucurella tugged the Norwegian forward.

But the Blues hit back, with Silva glancing home Conor Gallagher’s corner and the excellent Raheem Sterling then touched home Reece James’ cross after great work from Palmer.

But City made it 2-2 on the stroke of half-time when Manuel Akanji rose unmarked to head in Bernardo Silva’s cross.

Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead once more when Haaland touched in Phil Foden’s low cross to finish off a magnificent move just after the restart.

Malo Gusto and Palmer both missed glorious chances to equalise before Nicolas Jackson levelled the score once again when he tapped home his fourth goal in a week after Ederson parried Conor Gallagher’s powerful shot into his path.
