Damsgaard has ‘more than slim’ chance of Bees return – Frank
Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard could return for Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Newcastle.
The Dane, who has struggled to make an impact for the Bees since his move from Sampdoria last season, has missed the past three matches with an adductor problem and stayed in London during the recent international break to work on his recovery.
Boss Thomas Frank confirmed the 24-year-old is likely to be in the squad along with new signing Neal Maupay, who recently returned the club on loan from Everton four years after leaving to join Brighton.
“Dams looks better and we will assess him again tomorrow but there is more than a slim chance he will be involved,” Frank said.
He added: “It’s remarkable that Neal left four years ago and Rico (Henry) is the only player left from that time, so it shows the transformation of the club.
“It’s fantastic to have Neal back. He is a strong character, a great personality who pushes hard in every game and he wants to win and help the team.
“Maybe he lost his way a little bit (at Everton) but we can get the best out of Neal again here.”
