Fox and Smyth play in QPR friendly

Morgan Fox and Paul Smyth featured for QPR’s development side on Tuesday evening.

Dominic Gape also played in the game at Hanwell Town, where the visitors won 2-1 with goals from youngsters Rayan Kolli and Steven Bala.

Midfielder Gape is on trial, having been released by Rangers boss Gareth Ainsworth’s former club Wycombe.

It was defender Fox’s first appearance since his recent move to Loftus Road.

Fox, signed after being released by Stoke, has been building up his fitness and was in line for a place on the bench for Saturday’s opening game of the season, at Watford.

But with Jimmy Dunne and Jake Clarke-Salter ruled out, Fox now looks set to make his Championship debut for the club.

Despite them not featuring since the opening pre-season friendly, against Slavia Prague, Rangers have been hoping that Smyth and Clarke-Salter would be available for the Watford game.

However, while Smyth currently looks on course to be in the squad, Clarke-Salter is set to miss the match along with Dunne, who was stretchered off with a shoulder injury during a friendly at Oxford United on Saturday.

Ainsworth, who watched Tuesday’s game, hopes to sign a centre-back in the next 48 hours.
