Dieng omission ‘in the best interests of all parties’ – Ainsworth

Gareth Ainsworth has told QPR’s website that it was “in the best interests of all parties” to leave Seny Dieng out of the squad for a pre-season trip to Austria.

The goalkeeper has not been included because of a possible move to Middlesbrough.

Dieng, 28, is in the final year of his contract and looks unlikely to sign a new deal.

Boro have expressed an interest in the Senegal international, who joined QPR in 2016.

There has been some doubt at Rangers that Boro’s interest in Dieng would result in him moving to the Riverside Stadium this summer.

However, following talks between the two clubs it seems that a £2m deal could be in the offing.

Boro have also been linked with Chris Willock, but so far there has been no indication that they are looking to sign the forward.

Boss Ainsworth said:  “At this moment in time Seny’s future needs to be resolved and we feel it is in the best interests of all parties for him to stay in the country until that is concluded.”

Meanwhile, Leon Balogun was included in the travelling party.

Veteran defender Balogun was released at the end of his contract but has been training with the club and could yet be re-signed.

Ainsworth said: “Leon has been working incredibly hard as he continues his recovery from last season’s hamstring injury and it is great to have his experience within the group.”
