Frank praises Brentford after dramatic win

Thomas Frank praised his Brentford side’s resolve after they grabbed two late goals to beat Nottingham Forest.

Trailing until the 82nd minute through Danilo’s goal on the stroke of half-time, Ivan Toney’s deflected free-kick levelled before Josh Dasilva’s winner.

The decisive goal was checked by VAR for offside but, despite Yoane Wissa appearing to be marginally offside, it was allowed to stand.

Frank felt some sympathy for Forest, who remain deep in relegation trouble and finished the game with 10 men after Danilo was forced off with an injury with all five of their substitutes already on the field.

“They scored with the only chance they had, then we got a little bit of luck back with the deflection for our goal,” Bees boss Frank said.

“But the willpower and determination in the team is remarkable. Sometimes teams can be questioned if they have nothing to play for, but we showed today that we want to end as high as possible and it was very good coming back and winning 2-1.

“I spoke to the players and said they need to respect the emotion in the opposite dressing room, and I feel with them because it must be so tough for them after a fighting performance.

“They got injuries and then had a deflected goal and a marginal VAR onside goal go against them. But those are the margins of football.”
