Frank praises Bees after draw with Villa

Thomas Frank praised Brentford despite them conceding a late equaliser to draw with Aston Villa.

The Bees dominated the second half but had only Ivan Toney’s goal to show for their superiority, as Kevin Schade, Frank Onyeka and Bryan Mbeumo squandered excellent chances before Douglas Luiz scored.

“Isn’t that the beautiful thing about football when things like that happen?” Frank said.

“Of course when you don’t win I am the person that has a few emotions  – and at the moment they are bubbling inside of me.

“Part of me is cool and calm when I look at the performance, and it was close to being the complete performance had it not been for three ricochets in the 89th minutes, but prior to their goal we just gave one half-chance to Jacob Ramsey.”

In-form Villa had won their previous five matches and Frank felt the standard of the performance from his side against Unai Emery’s team deserved three points.

“Villa have been very good against some very good teams recently,” Frank said.

“It was a fantastic performance and I am very pleased for the players and how we performed, but when you are leading 1-0 in football these things can always happen.

“You never know when they are going to score a worldie from 30 yards but I am very proud of my players I think we are very unlucky no to have more points this season.”

Christian Norgaard was taken off at half-time with what appeared to be a leg injury, but Frank said the decision to take him off was merely precautionary.
