Potter calls for patience after defeat by Arsenal

Graham Potter believes patience is needed after some Chelsea fans booed at the final whistle following the loss to Arsenal.

Potter, who is into his third month in the Blues hot-seat following his arrival from Brighton, has had to deal with a number of injuries since taking over from Thomas Tuchel, but seen his side slip to seventh following a second successive defeat.


Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who is into his third year in charge of the Gunners, had a difficult start to his tenure but after their win at Stamford Bridge saw them return to the top of the Premier League.

Potter believes that shows what can happen when a manager is given time.

“I’ve been here eight weeks and a lot has happened,” Potter said.

“We’ve had a lot to deal with and I’m sure if you look at the Arsenal story, where they are now as to where they were two years ago, one year ago its slightly different.

“I’m sure at times Mikel was getting pelters and that’s how it is. That’s the job, that’s the life and we have to deal with that.”

Potter also defended the decision to play Mason Mount for 90 minutes against Dinamo Zagreb in midweek after the England midfielder’s underwhelming display against Arsenal.

“We looked at the game from a training perspective and I speak to Mason and He likes to play,” Potter said.

“He likes to be in a rhythm of games. Always, you can reflect after the event and make a different decision but like I say Mason likes to play.”
