Chelsea are well behind Arsenal, says Potter

Chelsea boss Graham Potter admitted his side lag way behind Arsenal after the Gunners returned to the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues sunk to seventh after Gabriel turned home a corner to hand the Gunners a victory their performance warranted, and Potter, who is eight weeks into his managerial tenure, knows he has plenty of work to do.


“You can see the difference in terms of the teams of confidence, the points they have got and the structure and work together,” Potter said.

“We are not in fantastic moment and as much as it is not nice to say, Arsenal were the better team and deserved to win the game.

“We have to take that and use that as motivation to move forward.”

Potter feels injuries to Kepa, Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Wesley Fofana are hindering his side, but said it will take time for his methods to kick in like it has with Arsenal boss  Mikel Arteta.

“I don’t think it is one thing, clearly confidence is higher,” he said.

“They have got the points and got off to a really good start and been working together for three years or so and have an understanding of each other.

“We are at the start of our process and we have a few problems in terms of key injuries to players that they have managed to stay clear of, but it is not just one solution unfortunately.

“I think you have to say Arsenal are ahead of us, in terms of where they have been working together, have more confidence and a good structure.

“Our players had an idea of what they want to do but we didn’t execute and the opponent was good.”
