QPR defeat not down to lack of attacking options, says Beale

QPR boss Mick Beale insists his side’s 1-0 defeat at Swansea on Saturday wasn’t down to a lack of options in attack.

Joel Piroe’s first-half strike following a mistake from Sam Field on the edge of the box separated the sides in a match where Rangers spent most of the second half encamped in the home side’s half without being able to find an equaliser.

Lyndon Dykes’ barren run in front of goal continued, with the Scottish forward now finding the net just once in his past 21 appearances, and he was replaced after an hour by Tyler Roberts, who missed a good chance to score when he shot straight at keeper Steven Benda.


Rangers made several enquiries about strikers right up until the 11pm transfer deadline last Thursday, with the plug pulled on Macauley Bonne’s move to Charlton as a result of them not being able to bring anyone in.

But Beale said mistakes in other areas of the pitch was the reason for the defeat in South Wales.

“It wasn’t for the lack of a number nine we lost, it was our poor play in big moments,” Beale said.

“We had good moments where we did steal it off Swansea.

“We did have moments where we could have executed better and we had set-plays but we didn’t come up with the answers.”
