Beale accepts some blame after QPR defeat

QPR boss Mick Beale accepted some blame for his side’s 1-0 defeat at Swansea.

A poor first-half display from Rangers which saw them gift the Swans the winner when Sam Field’s error on the edge of the box led to Joel Piroe scoring.


Rangers had most of the ball in the second half but failed to create many clear-cut chances as Swansea held on for their first home win of the season.

“There were a lot of mistakes in that first half from the officials and the players from both teams,” Beale said.

“We were poor today getting started. Maybe that is a little bit of tiredness. We responded better in the second half but if I look at the first half we were never in control defensively.

“We weren’t brave with the ball, we tended to play a lot at the back in front of Swansea and not through them, and looked a bit unsettled defensively.

“But we had big moments when Ilias (Chair) was through but the keeper makes a big save. But I thought our quality in the final third wasn’t there.

“I just think it is a reflection on where we are as a team at the moment.

“Not many teams will come here and have as much possession as we did against Swansea, but I didn’t think we performed well.”

Beale kept faith with the side that won at Watford and at home to Hull, but admitted it was perhaps a mistake on his part to not change his line-up sooner.

He said: “It’s three games this week but it’s difficult to change it after two big wins, but maybe I should have freshened it up. I thought we looked tired in the second half.

“I didn’t think I was great today, and I don’t think we were great as a team, so we need to have a good week in training.

“I should have made more subs at half-time, because I thought we needed energising.

“It’s early in our relationship and after just one half of up-and-down football, you have to be careful, because you are managing a group of men who are giving you what they can give you.

“But we looked tired today and that is where I am saying I maybe needed to have to helped more.”
