QPR ‘not even close’ to McNamara deal, Rowett says
Millwall manager Gary Rowett believes QPR are a long way short of prising Danny McNamara away from the south London club.
Rangers have had initial offers for McNamara, 23, rejected but are still chasing the right-back.
He is in the final year of his contract at The Den and Millwall are hoping he will sign a new deal.
“I think there has been a couple of offers [from QPR]. First and foremost Danny is our player and we want him to continue to be our player – he has developed really well,” Rowett told the South London Press.
“For me, when you have got a young player who has done really well you want them to progress and be part of your plans. He’s a player the fans like a lot and we like a lot – you don’t want those sort of players to leave.
“It’s an interesting one really because of the level of the bids. I wouldn’t bid for a QPR young player for that sort of amount, because it’s not even going to be close to any kind of valuation.
“At this moment in time I can’t imagine that changing. We want Danny McNamara to be our player and to develop and move forward with us. It’s a bit of a non-story, if I’m being honest.
“My focus is on Danny signing his contract. He’s been offered a good deal by the club and hopefully he’ll sign that contract soon.”
South Londoner McNamara, a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, is a product of Millwall’s academy and has impressed since breaking into the first team.
He has made 55 appearances for the Lions, with 38 of them coming last season.
Rangers are also looking to complete a deal to bring in Brighton midfielder Taylor Richards.
The Hammersmith-born 21-year-old was on Fulham’s books and then had a spell at Manchester City before joining Brighton in 2019.
He spent last season on loan at Birmingham, having spent the previous campaign on loan at Doncaster.
Richards is under contract at Brighton until 2024.
QPR want to sign him on a permanent deal or on loan with a view to a permanent move.
New boss Mick Beale is keen to bring in a midfielder, right-back and at least one striker before the Championship season gets under way.
Rangers are not currently looking to sign Chelsea midfielder Tino Anjorin, who has been linked with a potential move to W12.
