Frank pleased with win but ‘not that satisfied’ with first-half display

Brentford boss Thomas Frank

Brentford boss Thomas Frank praised his team for the 3-0 win over Southampton but admitted he was “not that satisfied” with the performance in the first half.

Quickfire goals from Pontus Jansson and Yoane Wissa in the first half put the Bees 2-0 up before Kristoffer Ajer added a third late on.

The victory takes Brentford up to 43 points with two games still remaining.

And Frank, while pleased overall, believes his side were not at their best despite the comfortable scoreline.

“The first goal is fantastic I must say. Then I really liked the momentum. We really went for the second one and we got it quick,” he said.

“But after that I was not that satisfied with the first half. I think we didn’t do well enough in terms of defending low.

“I think Southampton caused some problems. We adjusted at half-time which was much, much better and gave us much more control so I’m very pleased with that.

“Overall of course I’m pleased. I think Mads Bech, Pontus (Jansson) and David (Raya) did a top job today in terms of defending the box when they had to.

“The box we defended well in many areas and a clean sheet is crucial if you want to win football games and I’m pleased that we stepped up in this area.”

The game also saw Nathan Young-Coombes make his first-team debut following a prolific campaign for the club’s B team.

“He deserved it. I think Nathan has worked so hard in the training sessions with the B team and the first team when he’s training with us,” Frank added.

“The performances for the B team have been really good so it was nice to give him that debut.”
