Chelsea ‘ready to make £35m swoop for Real Madrid star’
Chelsea are ready to make a £35m summer swoop for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain, according to The Sun.
The Blues are said to be lining up the Argentina striker to replace Didier Drogba, who is tipped to quit Stamford Bridge.
It is claimed Madrid could be willing to do business so that they can finance the signing of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.
The Daily Mirror suggest Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will invite Pep Guardiola to name his price to take over as Blues boss if, as expected, he quits Barcelona.
Guardiola is believed to be planning to take a year out of the game but Abramovich is keen to make him an offer.
The Daily Mail say Manchester City as well as Chelsea are interested to discover whether Guardiola is leaving the Nou Camp as the multi-billionaire owners of both clubs would be interested in hiring him.
Meanwhile, QPR’s former Chelsea wide-man Shaun Wright-Phillips has told The Sun he thinks Fernando Torres has been held back by the pressure of his £50m pricetag.
Wright-Phillips, who cost Chelsea £21m when they signed him from Manchester City, recalled: “If it wasn’t for the players around me and Jose Mourinho, it would have been much harder.”
