Tuchel confirms Chelsea are looking to make signings
Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Chelsea are looking to enter the transfer market this month.
Injuries and Covid-19 cases have hampered the Blues this season and they are expected to bring in reinforcements while the window is open.
Head coach Tuchel said: “We are discussing – we are in talks with the staff and the board and the scouting, checking the possibilities.
“We always do that, but given the fact that we have some long-term injuries we’re looking into the market and looking into the possibilities.
“We’re not under the highest pressure, and things have to make sense for us personality-wise and position-wise and also for quality.”
The left wing-back position is a definite concern for Chelsea in light of Ben Chilwell missing the rest of the season with a long-term knee injury.
Talks have taken place with Lyon with a view to bringing Emerson Palmieri back from a season-long loan, but the French club are reluctant to part with him.
“I will not hide from the fact that we have a long-term injury with Ben Chilwell as our left wing-back, who will miss the whole season,” Tuchel said when asked whether Emerson might return.
“Of course we know and appreciate him (Emerson) as a player and as a person. He had such a huge influence although he did not have a lot of minutes last season.
“He is a top guy and a top professional and is still a Chelsea player.
“But it’s not only what I wish for – it’s also that we need to evaluate the situation.
“We’re looking into it, on this position, and that’s one of the options.”
