Frank proud of ‘incredible, unbelievable’ Bees performance

Thomas Frank paid tribute to his under-manned Brentford side after making champions Manchester City work hard for a 1-0 win at the Community Stadium.

Frank was without the injured Bryan Mbeumo and Rico Henry in addition to the suspended Christian Norgaard and the isolating Vitaly Janelt, as well as long-term absentees Josh Dasilva and Kristoffer Ajer.

However, the Bees held their own against an in-form City side who chalked up a 10th successive win to help them open up an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Brentford had three good chances to score in the first half before Phil Foden scored after Ivan Toney saw his close-range header cleared off the line, leaving boss Frank both proud and frustrated.

“It was an incredible, unbelievable performance, particularly in the first half,” Frank said.

“We were playing against probably the best team in Europe at the moment, especially in an offensive way.

“We created three fantastic opportunities that we had to take against a side who are at their peak and in form.

“But unfortunately we lacked the cutting edge in the second half.

“We were lacking six starters but I am incredibly proud and I thought we deserved at least a point.”
