QPR boss ‘hopeful’ Wallace injury is not serious

Mark Warburton is keeping his fingers crossed Lee Wallace will not have to spend another long stint on the sidelines after the QPR wing-back was forced off early in the second half of Monday’s win over Derby.

Wallace, who spent three months out with a hamstring injury, had only just returned to the starting line-up, playing key roles in the victories over Luton and Huddersfield which have helped catapult Rangers up to third in the table.

The Scot slumped to the ground at Pride Park seven minutes after half-time, but was able to walk off the field with what appeared to be little discomfort and Rangers boss Warburton is hopeful that was a good sign.

“He felt a bit of tightness and I really hope it is nothing serious,” Warburton said.

“He is very important to us and my thoughts on Lee are well documented. He brings a composure and a balance to the left side.

“He talks and communicates and is an outstanding professional, so I hope it is just precautionary.

“We’ll look at it but we are hopeful it is nothing serious as he is a vitally important player.”

Lyndon Dykes missed his third straight match as he continues to struggle with the ankle problem he picked up in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest last month and Warburton revealed he is doubtful for Sunday’s visit of Stoke.

The striker did return to the side for the win at Cardiff and draw at Blackpool but a recurrence of the problem when training with the Scotland squad has kept him out of contention.

“I think he will be another week or so I hope,” Warburton said.

“He will have a couple of injections so let’s see how he responds to those.

“He is eager to get back but we have to look after him. It’s just the fatigue element as he has played so many games, so hopefully not too much longer.”
