Livramento, Southampton: £4.5m
Armando Broja was the subject of more attention than Valentino Livramento after Southampton completed their business with Chelsea in the summer. The former strengthened Southampton’s frontline and gave head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl an extra physical attacking presence that had previously been lacking.
The 18-year-old is one of only three Saints players to have started every league game this season, along with midfield Oriol Romeu and goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
For a player who had never played a Premier League minute before the campaign, Livramento has adapted to the challenges of senior league football with ease. Mohammed Salisu (7.10) is the only defender on Hasenhuttl’s side for 2021/22 to have a higher WhoScored rating than the teenager (7.05).
Lewis Dunk, Brighton: £5.0m
Dunk has spent pretty much the whole of his career at Brighton & Hove Albion, having previously played for Bristol City for a short time in 2013. He had an outstanding 36 Premier League appearances with Brighton last season, as well as 5 goals and 11 clean-sheets.
Brighton is currently in the midst of one of their finest seasons in history, and they’re currently sitting pretty in 7th. A budget defender who is a sure starter from a team that is playing some of the greatest football is a no-brainer.
Vladimir Coufal, West Ham: £4.8m
West Ham United’s Andy Coufal has started each game at the beginning of the season, but because of a groin problem, he has missed most of the last 4 games. However, he appears to be returning to the team and has already lost more than 0.2 FPL value as a result of injuries.
Vladimir Coufal is an offensive right-back who is a huge threat in terms of assisting goals, as evident by his previous season, when he played 3054 minutes and provided 9 assists while scoring 128 points. What sealed the deal for us was his statistics from last season, so get him in before his value starts increasing.
Marc Cucurella, Brighton: £5.0m
FC Barcelona’s latest academy graduate is Marc Cucurella. On the deadline day of the summer transfer window, he joined Brighton from Getafe for a fee of about £15 million. He plays on the left-back position and has all the qualities needed to attack and assist in scoring goals for his team.
Last season, he scored 3 and assisted 2 for Getafe, and in the seasons before that he had 1 goal and 5 assists. And this is what an FPL manager will look forward to the most: Cucurella doing it for their team. Brighton is a decent Premier League club in terms of defending, and with the offensive potential Cucurella has, he is at the top of our suggested FPL budget defenders.
