Euro 2020 Bingo: The Cliches That Will Undoubtedly Happen

For fans of West London clubs, the Euros is certainly going to be a tournament to watch with a number of players in the area expected to play a pivotal role not just for England but many other nations too. After a year’s delay it’s back and while we’re going to see fantastic football across the month, we’re also going to see plenty of things that occur without fail in every tournament.

This time last year, summers were spent indoors playing mobile bingo and many other online games. So to take inspiration from that we’ve put together five occurrences to mark off that will almost certainly happen during Euro 2020…

The Germans win a shootout

Over the last few years Germany haven’t really needed penalties to be successful, but there’s pressure on them to succeed after a bad World Cup they’ll be looking to get through this tournament by hook or by crook. They’re record in penalty shootouts is phenomenal, as England fans know only too well, so it’s going at the very top of our bingo list this time around. 

David to beat Goliath

Euro 2016 threw up plenty of surprises when it came to the minnows conquering. Wales beat Belgium and Iceland dumped England out of the tournament to name a few. Euro 2020 is set up for more of the same with some interesting groups that could see many surprises. Hungary have the opportunity to slay three giants in their group as they meet France, Portugal, and Germany, while Wales will meet Italy, Finland take on Belgium, and North Macedonia face the Netherlands, all in the Group Stage. 

A legend to miss a penalty

It’s always the star that struggles in the shootout and you can bet that there will be some superstars you’d never expect to miss a penalty to muck things up from 12 yards out. Bruno Fernandes’ hop, skip and jump will certainly be under the microscope, while it was Mr Reliable Jordan Henderson who missed from the spot in Russia three years ago as England edged past Colombia.

Tears. Plenty of tears

Of course there will be tears. Tears of sorrow, tears of joy. Footballers love a post-match weep and you’ll be able to mark this off your bingo card at the end of almost every game in the Knockout Stage. Let’s just hope in England and Gareth Southgate’s case they will be tears of jubilation.
