Chelsea worth backing if they get the striker they need
With the season ending, football fans will have to wait three months for their fix of Premier League football.
When that new season begins in August, expect Chelsea to be among the contenders for the title after an encouraging start to Thomas Tuchel’s reign as boss.
Promotions on Heart Bingo, for example, will show that Tuchel’s side will be among the favourites for trophies next term – and rightly so.
There are also plenty of gambling games – offering everything from live quantum roulette and love quantum blackjack – to keep fans occupied during the break in Premier League football.
Back to Chelsea. Their form in the second half of the season suggests they could rival the likes of Manchester City for the championship next time around. They have plenty of strengths – and plenty of time to work on their weaknesses ahead of the new campaign. So it might well be worth sticking some money on the Blues before their odds shorten later in the summer.
Building from the back
One of of those strengths under Tuchel has been a rock-solid defence. Deploying Cesar Azpilicueta or Reece James as a right-sided centre-back has been a shrewd move, as has recalling Antonio Rudiger, who was left out in the cold by Tuchel’s predecessor Frank Lampard.
With veteran defender Thiago Silva set to sign a new deal, Chelsea look likely to be strong at the back again next season. Their succession of clean sheets under Tuchel tells its own story. They are so tough to beat under the German.
Midfield options
Chelsea also boast midfield options to rival any side in the country – including Manchester City.
N’Golo Kante’s fitness will need to be carefully managed, but with Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and youngster Billy Gilmour also vying for places, the Blues are strong in the centre.
They also have fine attacking midfield options, with Mason Mount continuing to shine and the likes of Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic finding their feet after tough starts to life in England.
Adding some firepower
Chelsea’s weakness has been a lack of a cutting edge up front, with Timo Werner struggling in front of goal and Tuchel stubbornly continuing to overlook a proven goalscorer in Tammy Abraham.
But this issue is almost certain to be addressed over the summer – and this would put the Blues in a great position to challenge for top spot.
Whether it’s the much sought-after Erling Haaland or a return to the Bridge for Romelu Lukaku, there is no doubt that the club will look to bring in a top-class striker over the coming months. That could be a game-changer and a definite reason Chelsea are well worth having a flutter on.
