Chelsea confirm agreement to join European Super League

Chelsea have confirmed they are among 12 clubs to have agreed to join a controversial European Super League.

In a statement, Chelsea said the club “look forward to working with all key stakeholders, particularly our supporters, as this competition develops.”

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are the other five English clubs to have agreed to take part.

So too have Spanish clubs, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as well as AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus from Italy.

The proposals have been widely condemned.

Chelsea Supporters’ Trust described the move as “unforgivable” and said its members and “football supporters across the world have experienced the ultimate betrayal”.
