Warburton praises QPR keeper Lumley

QPR keeper Joe Lumley

Mark Warburton has praised Joe Lumley for his emphatic return to the QPR side and says the goalkeeper is an example to other players.

Lumley made a series of errors before being dropped in favour of Seny Dieng, who has enjoyed an outstanding season.

But Lumley impressed when Dieng was recently rested against Coventry.

And he produced two fine saves after coming on following Dieng’s sending-off at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

“He was excellent when he came on at Middlesbrough and very good previously when he played against Coventry,” Rangers manager Warburton said.

“He’s worked so hard in training. He’s a real example. Sometimes you have to be patient in football and he’s been patient – always the best he can be every day and when he was called upon he was outstanding.

“I’ve been very impressed but not surprised. He does train so hard every day and is ready.

“He came in on Saturday and was excellent but no one was surprised. That speaks volumes about him as a player.

“He absolutely deserves enormous credit for the way he came on on Saturday and showed his professionalism and his quality.”

Lumley will play against Swansea on Tuesday evening as Dieng is suspended.
