QPR boss plays down De Wijs substitution
Mark Warburton played down the significance of Jordy de Wijs coming off during the second half of QPR’s 2-0 win at Bristol City.
The Dutch defender finally made his Rangers debut, having struggled with a calf problem since being brought in from Hull.
However, he appeared to be in some discomfort before being substituted after the hour mark.
But manager Warburton, who said he was “very pleased” with De Wijs impressive performance, indicated that the change was made because of his lack of match action.
Warburton said: “It was his first game. He’s played for the Under-23s and that’s a bit of a step up from the 23s and we have to look after him.”
De Wijs replaced Geoff Cameron, who was not in the matchday squad.
Warburton explained: “Geoff had a small knock. He’s 36 years of age, has played a lot of football – probably far more than he expected – and done a great job for us.”
