Chelsea looking to ‘find a solution’ to Pulisic’s injury woes

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is hopeful the club can find a way to solve the injury woes that have blighted Christian Pulisic’s Blues career.

The talented American attacker is out of Saturday’s lunchtime clash at Newcastle after damaging his troublesome hamstring during the warm-up at Burnley last month.

Pulisic was sidelined with the same problem for the first three matches of the season after limping off during the FA Cup final defeat against Arsenal in August.

The former Borussia Dortmund wide-man also missed over two months of action last season due to a torn abductor muscle sustained on New Year’s Day against Brighton and experienced a variety of muscular injuries during his time with the German giants.

Lampard believes Pulisic, 22, will overcome his issues but acknowledged the club are looking at ways to keep him out of the treatment room.

“With Christian we are still searching. He’s in a position at the moment where he has had a problematic injury,” Lampard said.

“He had a history before coming to us of having some muscular injuries and he’s had them again.

“Everything about Christian; how he is around the training ground, how he prepares and how much he wants to play is perfect.

“We need to find the right balance between playing a resting and maintenance throughout the week to get the best out of him.

“He is a young player still so this is not abnormal but we need to find a solution. I don’t want to make more of it than it is.

“We want to get as many games as possible out of Christian because of his ability, but at the minute he is injured and in the short-term it’s a work in progress.”
