Five top tips for betting on London’s top teams
Chelsea and other London clubs look like they will be fighting at the top and bottom of the Premier League this season.
Top UK Betting sites like the ones on bestbettingsites.com offer a range of football odds and it’s clear that Chelsea and Tottenham are regarded as the capital’s best-placed teams to challenge Manchester City and champions Liverpool this season, with Arsenal currently struggling to convince.
As well the races for Champions League spots, the title and other trophies, there is also the battle to stay in the top flight, with Fulham among the favourites for relegation.
When considering placing bets, here are five top tips you should consider.
1. Think of the January transfer window
It’s important to keep in mind that, however London’s teams are faring right now, the picture might well change within weeks. The reason is the opening of the January transfer window, which gives clubs the chance to beef up their squad.
Chelsea have generally tended to take this chance to improve, whereas history shows Arsenal and particularly Tottenham have been slow to. That could seriously affect Spurs’ chances of maintaining their early momentum and perhaps make Chelsea a better investment for any bets on a top-four finish.
The same could be said of Fulham, whose chances of staying up might well hinge on their ability to further strengthen their squad in January. The Whites look nailed-on for relegation at the moment, but with one or two astute signings that could change.
2. Remember Chelsea’s players are developing
The picture might also change because players improve – and in this respect it’s again worth considering the likelihood that the Blues will grow stronger as the season goes on.
The likes of Reece James, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi are still developing and, with more experience behind them, look likely to take their game to another level in the months ahead. Again this suggests Chelsea are a safe bet to stay the course.
3. Be careful about relying on Spurs
The same cannot be said about Spurs, who have shown throughout the years that there is always a chance they will fall away. The term ‘Spursy’ is perhaps unkind but it’s not without foundation – Tottenham do have a tendency to wither when the going gets tough. They’ve looked like the real deal under Jose Mourinho this season, but time will tell whether they can sustain that kind of form.
4. Don’t forget Palace
How about Crystal Palace for the FA Cup? The Eagles are capable of beating anyone on their day and have a hugely exciting attacking line-up with the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Ebere Eze and Andros Townsend. Palace could yet pull up some trees this season and could be worth a punt for the cup or perhaps a European place.
5. Make the most of Liverpool’s injury problems
Whereas it previously seemed Liverpool and City were on a different level and the smart money would still be on those teams to pick up silverware, Liverpool have major problems. The loss of Virgil van Dijk with a knee injury was a hammer blow and Joe Gomez now also being sidelined as well leaves the Reds looking vulnerable in defence. That surely is a reason to think about backing the likes of Chelsea and Spurs!
