Warburton frustrated after QPR defeat

Mark Warburton said the sending-off of Rob Dickie changed the course of the game after QPR’s defeat at Barnsley.

And the manager, as he has done so often in the past, again blamed a failure to take advantage of what he saw as a period of Rangers dominance.

They started well but went behind after Cauley Woodrow converted a penalty after being pulled down by Dickie, who was immediately red-carded.

Conor Chaplin doubled Barnsley’s lead and Yoann Barbet’s comical own goal midway through the second half summed up a miserable night for struggling Rangers, who are now without a win in seven matches, have failed to score in their past four and have won just three of their 18 games since the coronavirus lockdown.

Warburton said: “It reads 3-0, which is obviously frustrating and we’re disappointed.

“The game changed on the Rob red card incident unfortunately.

“I thought we were very good for the first 25 minutes or so. We started really well and were camped in their half.

“My frustration is that you must get your rewards. You must score in those periods and take advantage of that dominance.

“If you don’t do it then the game’s on a knife-edge still. It was a very good start but Barnsley came back into it.

“We were very comfortable and defending our goal, but that red card changed the whole dynamic of the game.”

Bright Osayi-Samuel, who had indicated he was likely to sign a new contract, was left out of the squad for the trip to Oakwell after stalling over the new deal.
