Retaining Premier League crown going to be a struggle for Liverpool

It is quite a relief to know that the 2020/21 Premier League season is only a few weeks away. After a 90-day hiatus from football due the COVID-19 pandemic, it is really good to see football making a strong comeback.

While we still haven’t moved on from Bayern Munich’s utter dominance in the Champions League last season, we’re now looking at what could possibly be a highly entertaining Premier League campaign. In all honesty, I’d bettors are going to be making and money using a us sportsbook, we are craving for a closer title battle than the one we experienced in the previous season.

Liverpool absolutely romped towards their first Premier League crown and were simply head and shoulders above the rest of the teams. Jurgen Klopp’s men played like a team possessed and had pretty much secured the title before football was brought to a screeching halt.

But things might pan out a little differently this time around based on many factors which we shall discuss in this piece.

Massive overhaul at Stamford Bridge

After sitting out the last two transfer windows due to a transfer ban, Chelsea have come to life. Following the midseason acquisition of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, Chelsea confirmed the signing of German international Timo Werner from RB Leipzeig.

However, the spending spree did not stop there and the Blues also completed the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City. Legendary Brazilian defender Thiago Silva was signed on a free transfer and the veteran would add a lot of experience to the team’s shaky defense.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard
Lampard has been keen to improve his attacking options

Malang Sarr was signed once the youngster’s contract at OGC Nice expired. The Frenchman will spend the next season on loan and is one for the future.

A move for German wonderkid Kai Havertz is also on the cards.

Clearly, Frank Lampard has been given serious backing by Roman Abramovich which is a clear signal of intent from the London giants. Chelsea are eager to get back to being a team that competes for top honors and they have invested like a team that wants to be back at the top quickly while making sure that a modicum of longevity is also kept in mind.

Red Devils waking up

Manchester United rallied to a third place finish last season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping for his team to continue their excellent run of form. The arrival of Bruno Fernandes has breathed life into a previously sterile creative unit.

The residents of Old Trafford are on the verge of securing a move for Netherlands international Donny van de Beek and a move for young Frenchman Dayot Upamecano is also on the cards. Borussia Dortmund have so far been very firm in their valuation of Jadon Sancho but one feels that the deal will eventually go through.

They might still be some ways away from being genuine title contenders but Manchester United are going to be a different prospect come next season.

Guardiola looking for a reunion

Now that Lionel Messi has requested a transfer release, a move to Manchester City has been discussed  a lot in papers. The Argentine’s arrival is going to shake up things massively. Throw in the fact that Ferran Torres has been snapped up from Valencia and Kalidou Koulibaly has reportedly agreed a move from Napoli and you have a City side that should not be taken lightly.

Arteta revival

Mikel Arteta has done something to Arsenal. The Gunners are no more pushovers when it comes to playing against the top four sides. After beating Liverpool in the Community Shield on penalties, the North London club is heading in the right direction.

With the classic Gunner’s bad signing a distant memory, Arsenal have already secured the services of Willian and Gabriel Maghaelas is on his way from Lille. William Saliba is back at the club after spending the previous season on loan at Saint-Etienne. The Gunners are also close to signing Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid permanently.

All in all, Arteta has found the right formula to get the best out of his players while spending wisely on new arrivals.

Liverpool are in a dilemma. The Reds have not spent much in the transfer market this season with Greek international Konstantinos Tsimikas the only addition so far. Jurgen Klopp’s side lacks depth and now that the rest of the title chasing pack has started investing heavily, they might struggle to retain their crown.
