Fulham remain in hunt for Premier League as football returns

It was a very disappointing season for Fulham last year, which saw them relegated from the Premier league. They had finally got back to the top flight with money being invested into the club, only for this to result in relegation. They finishing in 19th position of 20 sides and were only able to pick up 26 points from 38 matches played.

However, they went into the current season amongst the favourites to return to the top flight and are still very much in the hunt for promotion, with punters betting them to do so using the bet365 code on offer. At present they are sitting in third position but are seven points behind West Brom in second. This proves they have a tough task if they are to claw back this deficit with just eight games remaining in the Championship season. Fulham have won 18 matches, drew 10 and lost ten. However, they do still have a point gap over the fourth placed side Brentford with Forest in fifth also just two points further behind. It proves the promotion places are still wide open in the Championship.

As we were nearly the finish to the current season, it was halted due to the current coronavirus pandemic. This meant that sport world-wide was cancelled and many of us were put in lockdown. This of course also saw the European championship moved to next year, which was disappointing news for football fans. It appeared that this could also be the end of the season, with much speculation about it being cancelled. The German Bundesliga has already returned and proven a great success but in comparison to French Ligue 1 season has been cancelled. This all led to further speculation on whether UK football would return but the government has now given this the green light.

The Championship season returned on the 20th of June, with a vast number of games still to be played in the season, plus the play-off semi-finals and final. It will be a busy period for clubs, with Fulham looking to bounce back straight away and return back to the top flight. Fulham were unbeaten in their last four games, that included a 2-0 home victory over Preston, so will be hoping to return in similar form. However, they have returned from the coronavirus break with a defeat, so pressure is now on them.

Fulham will finish the season with eight fixtures, three at home and five away. The home fixtures will be against Birmingham, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday. Then their remaining away fixture are against Leeds United, QPR, Nottingham Forest, West Brom and finally Wigan Athletic. This just shows the tough end to the season they have remaining against many of the other sides at the top, so will be a tough task on them to gain automatic promotion.
