Mount and Barkley named in England squad
Mason Mount and Ross Barkley have been named in the England squad.
The Chelsea duo have been included in the squad for next month’s Euro 2020 qualifying double header against Bulgaria and Kosovo – online gambling offers show England are strong favourites for both matches.
Midfielder Mount, 20, has impressed for the Blues this season, starting all three Premier League matches under new boss Frank Lampard and scoring two goals.
Mount, an England age-group international from Under-16s to Under-21s, is yet to win an international cap but was first called up the full squad last season.
“Mason is in on merit. He looks like threatening the goal every time he plays. I’ve watched him since 16 playing through the various age groups,” said England boss Gareth Southgate.
“He’s not in based on three games this season, he’s in on the back after a successful year in the Eredivisie, a year at Derby and he’s improved at every level he’s played at.”
Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham had been tipped for a call-up but has not been included.
