Abraham double inspires Chelsea to thrilling first win for Lampard
Norwich 2 Chelsea 3
Tammy Abraham scored in each half to help earn Frank Lampard his first victory as Chelsea manager.
Abraham grabbed his first goal for the club inside three minutes with a sweet first-time half volley.
And although Todd Cantwell levelled, Mason Mount’s second goal in two games restored the lead.
Teemu Pukki scored from a tight angle to level again, but Abraham’s classy turn and low finish earned the visitors a first Premier League win in their third game.
Chelsea showed much greater control and patience after the break having twice been pegged back in a pulsating first half at Carrow Road.
Abraham’s composed first-time finish from Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross ensured the ideal start, and Mount’s lovely run and strike restored the lead after Cantwell had levelled.
With the Blues now on top, Andreas Christensen’s powerful close-range header was brilliantly saved by Canaries keeper Krul and Jorginho dallied when in a great attacking position.
But Norwich again hit back, Pukki scoring from a tight angle after running in behind Kurt Zouma and Christensen and finishing across Kepa.
Emerson and Christian Pulisic both wasted decent chances as Chelsea dominated the second half and the pressure told when Abraham, who was preferred to Olivier Giroud in attack, turned and ran at the home defence and beat Krul with ease.
Ben Godfrey did hit the bar with a header for the hosts.
But Zouma had a goal disallowed by VAR, Azpilicueta had a strong claim for a penalty turned down and Willian and Ross Barkley – the latter handed a late starting place because Pedro was injured in the warm-up – could have added to the lead in the closing stages.
